Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS)
ARDS is a severe lung disease caused by a variety of direct and indirect issues. It is characterized by inflammation of the lung parenchyma leading to impaired gas exchange with concomitant systemic release of inflammatory mediators causing inflammation, hypoxemia and frequently resulting in multiple organ failure.
Hospital-Acquired Pneumonia (HAP)
Hospital-Acquired Pneumonia is defined as pneumonia that occurs 48 hours or more after admission, which was not incubating at the time of admission.
Lower Respiratory Tract Infection
LRTIs are infections caused by bacteria or viruses that affect the trachea, bronchi and lungs and can cause mild to severe illnesses such as pneumonia, bronchitis and lung abscesses.
Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP)
VAP is a sub-type of hospital-acquired pneumonia which occurs in people who are on mechanical ventilation through an endotracheal or tracheostomy tube.
