Dr. Mark Kaplan MD, FACS
Dr. Mark Kaplan graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Temple University and a Medical Doctorate degree from Temple University School of Medical in Philadelphia. He completed his Surgical Residency at the Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. He is board certified in Surgery and Surgical Critical Care.
In the past 20 years, Dr. Kaplan has had numerous hospital and academic appointments. He is currently the Chairman of the Division of Trauma and Surgical Critical Care as well as the Associate Chairman in the Department of Surgery at Albert Einstein Medical Center. He is an Associate Clinical Professor at the Thomas Jefferson University School of Medicine and Temple University School of Medicine. In addition, he is a Visiting Professor at the University of Indiana in Indianapolis, Michigan State University in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Washington University in St Louis.
Dr. Kaplan's published articles, presentations, abstracts and poster presentations are too numerous and diverse to mention. Suffice it to say that he is well published. His abdominal compartment syndrome and negative pressure wound therapy articles and research findings have been referenced by many other medical clinicians. Dr. Kaplan is not only a renowned national but international speaker. He has given presentations as far away as Queensland, Australia, Antwerp, Belgium, Milan, Italy, Paris, France, and the United Kingdom.

Sonja Bruce, RN MPH is a Regional Professional Education Manager (RPEM) who has 23 years nursing experience in specialties such as general surgery/ENT, trauma, oncology surgery, oncology medicine and rehabilitative medicine. She holds Master’s of Public Health with a focus on Health Promotion and Disease Prevention from the George Washington University. Prior to joining KCI, she held positions as a discharge planner and disease case manager at Kaiser Permanente within various health care settings such as hospitals, SNF and clinics. For the past 8 years, Sonja has worked at Kinetic Concepts Incorporated (KCI, INC) as a Clinical Account manager, Account Executive and currently a Regional Professional Education Manager. She is responsible for managing all Professional Education programs in her region and working closely with the KCI Sales Team by leading the identification of all logistical needs for regional educational activity and programs. She mentors field sales representatives on education programs, presents wound care in-services to physicians, nurses, and other health care practitioners. She also develops web based educational programs for KCI and recruits regional key opinion leaders and assists them in becoming part of the KCI Speaker’s Bureau.

Venous insufficiency creates many challenges for both patient and caregiver. This webinar will focus on the disease state and associated challenges when dealing with patients affected by venous insufficiency. In addition, treatment regimes ranging from local wound care to surgical procedures, along with case studies, will be included to examine various methods of treating venous leg ulcers. Allen Gabriel, MD
Dr. Allen Gabriel received a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Utah and a Doctorate in Medicine at the University of Nevada School of Medicine. He completed his Plastic Surgery residency at the Loma Linda School of Medicine, and recently completed a Breast and Aesthetic Fellowship at Baptist Hospital, Nashville, TN. Currently, Dr Gabriel is a practicing physician in Seattle, WA.
Since graduation from medical school, Dr Gabriel has conducted wound care research projects and published articles in journals such as International Wound Journal, Wounds, Journal of Pediatric Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Journal of Investigative Medicine and Bariatric Plastic Surgery. In collaboration with several leading wound care experts such as Drs. Niezgoda, Gupta and Dot Weir, he published "The Peri-operative use of Vacuum Assisted Closure Therapy in Skin Grafting, Differentiating Negative Pressure Wound Therapy Devices, and Management of Wound Environment with Negative Pressure Wound Therapy." In addition, Dr Gabriel is a national speaker and has presented at the American College of Surgeons conference, WOCN annual meeting, Bariatric Surgery conference , and Clinical Symposia on Advances in Skin and Wound Care.

Dot Weir is a highly respected nurse and educator who is board certified as a wound specialist by both the WOCN and the American Academy of Wound Management. Ms. Weir has extensive experience having dedicated over 26 years of her career with a focus on wound care in acute, home, and long-term care settings. She is listed as a founding board member of the Association of the Advancement of Wound Care having held the offices of both Treasurer and President. Currently Dot is wound care coordinator for in-patient and out-patient wound care services at Osceola Regional Medical Center in Kissimmee, Florida.
Ms Weir has authored or co-authored four books on wound healing, a practical guide to the management of wounds, pressure ulcers, and chronic wound care. Her articles had been published in the Journal of WOCN, Disease Management Digest and Wounds. She is a popular and knowledgeable lecturer known for her passionate commitment to the highest standards of patient care and treatment.

Connie Sunderhaus is Vice President of CXJ Corporation and managing consultant of the Health Care Group. Connie's past clinical experience includes case management, patient education, and home healthcare. She is the author of multiple articles published in case management and other national healthcare journals. The role of the case manager is the focus of her educational programs with in‐depth reviews on each topic as what is most important to the case manager and how case managers can utilize information in caring for their patients. She is a contributing writer for a national case management education company and serves on several national speakers' bureaus. Currently she is a regular author for Case in Point®, writing the patient primer page.
Connie is the 2009‐2010 Treasurer of the Case Management Society of America (CMSA), an appointed member of the Public Policy Committee, a past officer, and represented the organization with the Joint Commission. Speakers: Dr. Charles Andersen MD, FACS, FAPWCA and Dr. Vickie Driver DPM
Dr Charles Andersen graduated with a Bachelor's degree from Utah State University and received his Medical Doctorate degree from the University of Utah. He completed a General Surgery residency and a fellowship in Peripheral Vascular Surgery. He is board certified in Surgery.
Dr Andersen was commissioned in the US Army after completing his residency and was the Vascular and Surgical Consultant for the Surgeon General for several years. He established the Vascular Surgery Service and the Noninvasive Vascular Laboratory at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii, and a multidisciplinary Foot at Risk Clinic in Madigan Army Medical Center. Currently, Dr. Andersen is the Medical Director of Wound Care at Madigan Army Medical Clinic and the Chief of Vascular/Endovascular and Limb Preservation Service at Madigan Army Medical Center.
Dr. Andersen has presented in the US, Japan, Korea, Philippines, France and Italy. He has published articles and research outcomes in prestigious journals such as the American Journal of Surgery, Journal of Vascular Surgery, Annals of Surgery, and the Journal of Ankle and Foot Surgery to name just a few. Dr. Anderson has been the principal or associate investigator for over 100 research studies. Two of his studies were, "A Randomized, Controlled, Multicenter Trial of V.A.C.® Therapy in the Treatment and Blinded Evaluation of Abdominal Wounds, A Randomized, Controlled, Multicenter Trial of V.A.C.® Therapy with Split-Thickness Skin Grafting in the Treatment and Blinded Evaluation of Venous Stasis Ulcers".
Dr. Driver received her Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine and a Master's degree in Medical Education from California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco and is a fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. Her research specialties are in the areas of diabetic foot ulcers, limb preservation and wound care. She has been the principal investigator in many research studies, published numerous articles and presented abstracts, posters and lectures both nationally and internationally. In addition she has received numerous awards for her business and community endeavors in the San Francisco Bay area.
Dr. Driver is currently the Director, Clinical Research Foot Care, Endovascular and Vascular Services, Associate Professor of Surgery and Director, Research Fellowship and International Scholars Program at the Boston University School of Medicine and Boston University Medical Center.

Susan Mendez-Eastman is a Certified Wound Care Nurse at the Nebraska Medical Center and a Research Nurse Assistant at the University of Nebraska College of Nursing in Omaha, Nebraska. She is a Certified Wound Care Nurse and Plastic Surgical Nurse.
Susan is definitely an outstanding and prolific writer. She has published approximately 40 wound care articles in RN, Plastic Surgical Nursing, Advanced Skin Wound Care, and Ostomy Wound Management journals to name a few. She has participated in many chronic wound studies as a Research Assistant and is a well known national and international speaker on Wound Care. She has presented at least 70 times in the US, Canada and Australia in the past couple of years. In her spare time, Susan reviews manuscripts for potential publication in the American Journal of Nursing, and she is a Master Panel Reviewer for the NCLEX Nursing exams.

Melissa has been a physical therapist over 11 years. She is board certified by the American Academy of Wound Management since 2004 as a wound care specialist. She has worked in multiple settings including acute, long term care, home, and outpatient treating patients with a focus on wound care.
She is presently a member of the American Physical Therapy Association where she is Vice President of the Wound Management Special Interest Group for the Clinical Electrophysiology Section.
Presently she is the clinical manager of the Piedmont Fayette Wound Care Center and Inpatient Wound Services at Piedmont Fayette Hospital in Fayetteville Georgia, which she assisted in coordinating and developing a multidisciplinary wound care center in 2006.
She has been a coordinator and presenter of education series for the American Physical Therapy Association Combined Sections and Annual Conference Meetings including presentations on pressure ulcers and the diabetic foot.

Amy McNulty graduated from the University of Toronto with a PhD in Physiology and minors in Molecular Genetics and Biochemistry. Following her PhD she completed a 3 year post doctoral at the University of South Florida in Cellular Physiology. Amy has been working for over 15 years on tissue repair and wound healing. For the last 6 years, she has worked with KCI where she has directed work to elucidate the mechanism of action for VAC Therapy and other products in the KCI product portfolios. Amy is an expert in her field and is currently the Director of Applied Sciences for the AHS division.
