The Body Mass Index (BMI) may help doctors assess patients because the index is simple, correlates to adipose deposition and applies to both men and women. To determine BMI, weight in kilograms is divided by height in meters, squared. To calculate you or your patient’s Body Mass Index, insert the weight in pounds and select the height. ** Disease risk for Type II Diabetes, Hypertension and Cardiovascular Disease.
Increased waist circumference can also be a marker for increased risk even in persons of normal weight.
